New York State Senator Michelle Hinchey is hosting a virtual information session in partnership with AFTD to help raise FTD awareness during World FTD Awareness Week.

The information session, happening via Facebook Live on Oct. 1 at 11:00 a.m. EDT, will offer FTD education to the public and resources for families impacted by FTD.

Sen. Hinchey recently sponsored a resolution, since adopted by the legislature, designating Sept. 26 through Oct. 3 as FTD Awareness Week in New York.

“The fight to bring FTD to the forefront of public awareness and to our policy discussions in the State Legislature is a personal one for me,” Sen. Hinchey said in a press release. “Anyone who has had to watch a family member suffer through this degenerative brain disease understands the heartbreak, the frustration of misdiagnosis, the challenge of finding affordable long-term care, and the need for quality informational resources to help prepare for every stage of the disease.”

Sen Hinchey’s father, former U.S. Congressman Maurice Hinchey, was diagnosed with primary progressive aphasia (PPA); he died in November 2017.

AFTD Advocacy Manager Matt Sharp will join Sen. Hinchey for this virtual session to “[bring] awareness of the complex and devastating challenges brought on by FTD,” he said in the press release.
