People and families affected by FTD can find hope, support, and opportunities to connect with others who understand the journey at the 2021 AFTD Education Conference. 

This year’s conference will be broadcasted online on May 13 and 14, and will feature interactive presentations facilitated by leading FTD researchers and experts.  

Dr. Tia Powell, author of Dementia Reimagined: Building a Life of Joy and Dignity from Beginning to End will kick off the conferenceDr. Powell, who is the director of the Montefiore Einstein Center for Bioethics at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, has been featured on platforms such as NPR’s Fresh Air discussing her book and highlighting the need to re-examine the way we look at dementiaAt the Education Conference, she will speak to the need to transform the culture of dementia care, for the benefit of people with dementia, their care partners, and their families.  

Other featured speakers at the Conference include Dr. Chiadi Onyike, the director of the FTD and Young-Onset Dementias Program at Johns Hopkins UniversityDr. Onyike, who also serves as a member of AFTD’s Medical Advisory Council, will share vital perspective on what is known about FTD across cultures and the need for continued research and additional understanding in this area.  

Dr. Adam Staffaroni of the University of California San Francisco will provide an update on currently major FTD research initiatives. And Dr. Elizabeth Finger of Western University will speak to emerging clinical trials for pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions in FTD.

Conference attendees will have the opportunity to interact live with presenters via question-and-answer sessions, chats, and more. Attendees can also participate in dynamic breakout sessions such as “Redefining Resilience: A Caregiver’s Journey” and “Supporting FTD Care When You’re Not the Primary Caregiver: A Roundtable Discussion.
