“Over the years, I have had the privilege of meeting and working with people living with FTD and their families. Their strength and resilience have inspired me and motivated me to focus my research on this area. Through my work, I hope to give something back by improving our understanding of the disease. I am also deeply committed to building a more compassionate society for people living with dementia, and I see research as my way to help make that possible.”

Dr. García-Cordero was the first recipient of the Clinical Research Training Scholarship in FTD in 2022 – a clinical program funded by AFTD, the American Brain Foundation, and administered by the American Academy of Neurology. This award funds two years of work to support emerging FTD clinical researchers.

Dr. García-Cordero studied the impact of co-existence of Alzheimer’s Disease pathology in outcomes for Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP). She continued to branch out to study the association of several factors with PSP progression, such as age, language/cognitive impairment, and neuropsychiatric symptoms. Her postdoctoral work was completed under the guidance of Dr. Carmela Tartaglia, AFTD Medical Advisory Council Chair-Elect, at the University of Toronto.

Dr. García-Cordero has become a major contributor to the field, authoring five FTD-related publications and attending more than 10 related conferences since 2022. After review from external experts, she again received AFTD funding as the recipient of the 2025 Pathways for Hope Pilot Grant. She has returned to her home country of Argentina, secured an independent research position, and plans to continue studying FTD as a central part of her research program. Her newly funded project investigates factors that influence white-matter changes in people with behavioral variant FTD in Latin America and North America. She continues to be involved with AFTD and now volunteers her time as a grant reviewer.
