Disappearing Dave

Erin Anderssen of The Globe and Mail, Toronto, Ontario, reports on frontotemporal dementia and its impact on Dave Gustafson, his wife and caregiver Susan, and his parents Tom and Barb in “Disappearing Dave” (The Globe and Mail, September 22, 2010).

This is not my husband, Susan thought, tiptoeing around the house. But dementia never occurred to her. She, like most people, considered it a disease of the elderly, a common misconception that often leads to late diagnosis when the affliction strikes early.

Susan Gustafson is the Regional AFTD Advocacy Network Coordinator in the Canadian Western Provinces. To read the full story, go to Disappearing Dave.
