Honoring Our Founder

Helen-Ann Comstock

1933-2025

Helen-Ann Comstock, who founded AFTD in 2002 to ensure no family would face FTD without resources and support, died on July 30, 2025, at age 92.

Inspired by her husband Craig’s FTD journey — a painful and isolating experience — Helen-Ann transformed her own family’s challenges into a lasting mission: creating a community of understanding and hope for all affected by FTD.

We honor her legacy by continuing the work she began to bring forward a world with compassionate care, effective support, and a future free of this disease.

We received hundreds of messages from people whose lives were touched by Helen-Ann:

“Ms. Comstock’s legacy is one of compassion, strength, and hope. Because of her, none of us have to face FTD alone and that is a remarkable gift. I carry deep gratitude for all she made possible.”

“Ms. Comstock is the reason that many, many, people, including myself, have an outlet for our grief and a means of turning it into a tangibly improved quality of life for FTD families. Even in the darkness of FTD, she has made our worlds so, so much brighter.”
