Retired Police Officer Grants Christmas Wish for Family with FTD

A Pennsylvania family received “the best gift” this Christmas when a retired police officer helped bring their mother, who is living with FTD, home for the holidays.

Lissa Hannan’s one wish this Christmas was to spend the day with her mother, Victoria Harris, who was diagnosed with FTD three years ago and now receives 24/7 care at a nursing and rehabilitation facility. In an article published on the Beaver County Times website, Hannan describes how her mother’s condition has progressed over the years – from the onset of symptoms such as apathy and compulsive behaviors, to the inability to walk or feed herself.

Hannan thought this Christmas could be the last with her mother due to the severity of her condition and wanted to spend the day together at home, a wish that was granted with the help of a retired police officer. As a result, Harris was able to spend close to four hours with her daughter and grandchildren on Christmas Day.

“She loved her family and keeping her home nice and keeping the traditions during the holidays,” Hannan told the Times. “That’s why I wanted to bring her home … I don’t feel anyone should be without their family for Christmas and I wanted that for her.”
