Banner: Meet the Researcher - Celebrating Professionals Committed to FTD Research - Carmela Tartaglia, MD, FRCPC

Dr. Tartaglia is a cognitive behavioral neurologist and Professor at the University of Toronto and the University Health Network. She is the Executive Director of the Toronto Dementia Research Alliance and runs a research program on dementias – with a particular focus on FTD. The ultimate goal of her work is to diagnose neurodegenerative disorders earlier with the use of accurate biomarkers. She has made invaluable contributions to FTD research โ€“ identifying clinical FTD features over time, early neuroimaging changes, and being an integral leader in the two largest clinical studies in FTD: the North American ALLFTD study and the European GENFI study.

Dr. Tartaglia has also contributed immensely to AFTD โ€“ she has recently been named the Chair Elect of AFTDโ€™s Medical Advisory Council, where she has served long-term as a member and grant reviewer. She volunteers her time annually to present at AFTD Research events such as the Holloway Summit and the Research Roundtable. She mentored a successful AFTD fellowship applicant and also participated in the AFTD Holloway Scholars Mentorship Program. She has authored educational resources for AFTDโ€™s website and is a tireless advocate translating research into actionable items for families touched by FTD.

Please join us in thanking Dr. Tartaglia for her unwavering commitment to the FTD community!
