FTD Caregiver Honored on Float in Annual Rose Parade

Rose Bowl - Adkins, A

An FTD caregiver was among those honored on a float celebrating family caregivers during the 2020 Rose Parade on New Year’s Day.

Aisha Adkins, whose mother Rose is living with FTD, was one of the eight caregivers celebrated on the float, called “Hope’s Heroes.” The float offered a message of hope, honoring family caregivers from across the country and from every generation.

In a recent azcentral.com article, Adkins shares how she quit her job several years ago to care for her mother full-time. Now 35, Adkins talks about the work she is doing to raise awareness around family caregiving and emphasizes the importance of including different types of voices in conversations about dementia-care.

She hopes that sharing her story and participating in the parade, which typically draws over 30 million television viewers, will help to increase visibility and let others know they are not alone in their journeys.
