Ellie’s Butterflies is a children’s picture book written by Alecia Smith, described as a “loving story about understanding dementia.”
When Alecia’s father was diagnosed with FTD at the age of 61, all three of her children were under the age of five. Alecia searched for a children’s book that could help her have a conversation with her children about their grandfather’s diagnosis, but found nothing. So she decided to use her experience as a teacher, combined with her passion for books and experience with FTD, to write her own! Her book, Ellie’s Butterflies, features an honest approach to the complicated feelings surrounding an FTD diagnosis and offers a support guide for parents.
As Ellie’s Butterflies prepares for publication, Alecia has launched a Kickstarter, where a portion of the proceeds raised will be donated to support AFTD’s mission. After publication, 10 percent of sales from every book will also be donated to AFTD.
