The Cruelest Disease You’ve Never Heard Of: Frontotemporal Dementia

As seen on 60 Minutes

Understanding is growing that not all dementia is Alzheimer’s. However, too few realize today that dementia can impact younger adults.

FTD, also known as frontotemporal dementia, frontotemporal degeneration or Pick’s disease, is the most common dementia diagnosed before age 60.

FTD brings progressive changes to personality, language, decisonmaking, behavior, and movement. FTD is actually a group of diseases affecting the same brain regions. These include behavioral variant FTD, primary progressive aphasia (PPA), corticobasal degeneration, progressive supranuclear palsy, and FTD/ALS.

Today, there are no treatments. There is no cure. But support is available – it’s important to know that you don’t have to face an FTD journey on your own. AFTD envisions a world with compassionate care, effective support, and a future free of FTD. We are the nation’s leader in addressing FTD, and we’re here to help.
