AFTD’s 2017 Hope Rising Benefit

AFTD’s second Hope Rising Benefit took place at The Pierre Hotel in New York City on Thursday, October 12. The event was hosted by Benefit Co-Chairs Dr. Henry Louis Gates, Jr., David Geffen, Donald Newhouse and Anna Wintour, joined by two Benefit Vice-Chairs, AFTD Board members Kathy Newhouse Mele and Daniel Hedaya.

AFTD presented U.S. Senator Charles E. Schumer with the Susan Newhouse & Si Newhouse Award of Hope, in recognition of his decades-long work as a strong proponent of biomedical research, and his ability to foster bipartisan support for these efforts. AFTD CEO Susan L-J Dickinson also announced the creation of the David Geffen Fund, a major gift to AFTD made in honor of the late Si Newhouse.

Tony and Grammy Award winner Cynthia Erivo performed at Hope Rising; journalist Paula Zahn hosted. Vogue covered the event for its website.
