Employer Matching Gifts

Your donation to AFTD may be worth even more if your employer has a matching gift program.  Thousands of companies match their employees’ contributions to charitable non-profit organizations; they may also match contributions by retirees, spouses and directors as well.  So ask your Human Resources department if there is a matching gift program where you work.  Completing their brief form may double or even triple your dollars to AFTD.

Charitable distributions from IRAs (November, 2008)

Passage of the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008 makes it easier for owners of IRAs who have reached the age of 70 or older to make qualified charitable distributions directly from their IRA to charities such as AFTD. Under the new provision, distributions made in 2008 or 2009 are not subject to Federal income tax and can satisfy minimum distribution requirements. For more information, see your financial planner or tax accountant.

Donate Securities

The Association is also able to accept donations in the form of securities. This can be a beneficial way of supporting the work of the Association while, at the same time, receiving some possible tax benefits. To find out more, or to arrange a transfer of appreciated securities from your brokerage account please contact us at info@theaftd.org.

Donate Through eBay eBay Giving Works

ebay - Giving WorksAFTD is now able to accept donations through eBay. eBay has developed a program called “eBay Giving Works” which is a dedicated program that enables sellers to list items on eBay and then donate part or all of the final sale price of the item to the charitable organization of their choice. All donations are fully tax deductible. For instructions on how to sell an item on eBay and to then have the proceeds donated to AFTD visit http://givingworks.ebay.com/sell/ or call us at (866)507-7222. AFTD can be found in the eBay non-profit directory under “Association for Frontotemporal Dementias” or by typing one of the following key words: FTD, AFTD, or Picks.

Use Jatna.com as a Way to Shop Online

Jatna is a free, easy-to-use fundraising website that can serve as a new fundraising channel for your organization.  Jatna was created by a father and son in Tucson, Arizona.  For years, this family supported various non-profit causes and realized that many other people would like to do the same, if only they had the means or if it could be done on a budget – preferably for free.  Then they created a novel solution: Jatna.  Jatna generates free donations each time that shoppers buy online.  Essentially, anyone who shops online can donate to AFTD, for zero additional out-of-pocket expense.

Here’s how Jatna works: simply visit AFTD’s Jatna fundraising page prior to shopping online (at Amazon, iTunes, OfficeMax, Target, Walmart, Travelocity, Starbucks, and 4,200+ other stores), and donations will be generated for your organization, for free.  Thousands of online stores (like Amazon) offer commissions to websites (like Jatna) for bringing them internet shoppers (like you and your supporters).  Rather than keeping the commissions generated from your online purchases, Jatna will share these commissions with your organization.

Here are the 5 steps of Jatna:

1. Visit www.jatna.com
2. Choose ”Association for Frontotemporal Demetias” as your organization of choice
3. Enter a store name
4. Shop
5. You just raised money for AFTD!

Use Good Search as your Online Search Engine

GoodSearchGoodSearch: You Search…We Give! GoodSearch is an online search engine powered by Yahoo! that donates one penny to your charity of choice each time you use their service to search for something on the web (it works similar to Google). By going to the GoodSearch.com website and registering AFTD as the charity of your choice, one penny will be donated to AFTD each time you use GoodSearch to find what you’re looking for. Just imagine, if 1,000 people designate AFTD as their charity and search twice a day for a year, AFTD will earn $7,300 which will go toward more programs and research for families coping with FTD! Go to the www.GoodSearch.com website now to register, and then tell all of your friends and family to do the same!
